Envisioning a UNH free from violence
In addition to the 服务 SHARPP provides in support of survivors, our office is committed to preventing violence before it happens.
We envision a world 和 campus in which resources like SHARPP are not needed, because violence is not occurring in the first place. Our culture often teaches about 人际关系 violence (sexual assault, 跟踪, 骚扰, relationship abuse) in a way that characterizes it as unfortunate yet inevitable, rather than as something that is wholly preventable. At SHARPP, we are rooted in the knowledge that violence is preventable 和 everyone in our community has a role to play in working towards a UNH free from violence.
Violence prevention is an approach to eliminating 人际关系 violence (IPV) that is rooted in public health 和 social justice. At SHARPP, we also embrace a power-conscious approach[1], recognizing that IPV is perpetrated as a means to exert dominance 和 control, so effective prevention must reckon with 和 address dynamics of power. The prevalence of violence on college campuses is inextricable from systems of oppression that uphold racism, 性别歧视, 恐同症, 不再恐, 残疾歧视, 排外情绪, 等. 因此, anti-violence work is 和 must be anti-oppression work.
We will not eliminate 人际关系 violence if we only attend to individual knowledge, or only focus on 机构 policies. 相反, effective anti-violence practices target individual, 人际关系, 组织, 机构, 和 systemic strategies for change. This is known as a social-ecological perspective. SHARPP is grateful for our 合作伙伴 at UNH 和 across New Hampshire who collaborate with, 冠军, 和 support us in our work to prevent 人际关系 violence.
Here are some examples of SHARPP’s violence prevention work:
- Educational programs focused on consent, byst和er intervention, healthy relationships & relationship abuse, 跟踪, 骚扰, rape culture, 和 more. 请求一个程序 for your community, class, res hall/apartment, org, chapter, team, 等.!
